Today I came to the facility prepared to put in extra hours as I was made aware that it was a large delivery day. There were plenty of other volunteers present in the main kitchen from major companies such as Bank of America and NOVA Health. This allowed me to only help Jennifer in the side kitchen rather than switching back and forth. After speaking to many of the corporate volunteers, I learned that if I worked in a similar environment as them in the future my job will allow me to put time aside to volunteer. At first, it was only me and Jennifer managing all that had to be done, but later another volunteer name Reed showed up. Reed was also a student at UNCC and was completing community service for his LBST Citizenship course. It was interesting to talk to him as I also am taking the same course this semester, but I was assisting another organization for my service project. As there were three of us working together, we were able to finish processing the foods much more quickly. After cleaning the kitchen, I had helped Jennifer clean out all the delivery bags as well and labeled them with their district numbers. This is an important task so that the drivers of each district would be able to deliver the proper food to each customer. The idea of customization is crucial as each person ordering the food has different needs, dietary restrictions, or preferences. Being able to not only deliver the foods safely but also with care shows the great amount of thought that goes into the whole process.
