Day 3:

As the third day of volunteering came around, I had been fairly well trained in all of the tasks that were being performed at the facility. With a greater knowledge of the placement of all of the ingredients and cooking materials, I had a much easier time performing the work that Jennifer assigned to me. I began by cutting vegetables and starting the preparation for foods such as salads and sandwiches. Jennifer had initially instructed me to cut the meats as well, but drawing from our conversations in the previous sessions, she remembered that I was vegetarian and proceeded to have Jeremiah cut the meat instead. We were trying to increase the pace of food preparation that week, as Jennifer wasn’t going to be at the facility on one of the following days. I worked with Jennifer that day to assemble most of the vegetarian wraps, so that I didn’t have to come into contact with the meat. It meant a lot that she remembered an important detail from one of our previous conversations that may not have signified much in the moment, but was important to me in the context of the work that day.
